FAQ
1. How does it work?
We install and professionally maintain your on-property hive, providing everything from setup to honey harvest. We start with a consultation. Next, our team will work with your maintenance crew to conduct a property assessment to find the safest spot for the bees for both their safety and yours. Let us do the rest and your property becomes a thriving habitat for pollinators, creating unique experiences for guests while suporrting Hawai'i's ecosystem.
2. Are bees safe on a rooftop?
Yes! Honeybees are excellent navigators commuting 2-3 miles to forage. They often fly above trees and buildings, so a rooftop is comfortably in their range, which is why urban beekeeping has such high success rates. The height actually reduces obstacles and gives them a clear, direct flight path.
3. Do the bees bother neighboring properties?
No. Using the sun as their guide, honeybees navigate straight to flowers and back to their hive, keeping the focus on their work, not on your guests or staff. We work hard to place each hive in a location optimal for the bees and everything/everyone around them.
4. Are honeybees native to Hawai'i?
Honeybees were introduced to Hawai'i in the 1800s and are not native. However, they play a critical role in pollination. Hawai'i does have a native species, the yellow-faced bee, which is a solitary, native, and an important part of our islands' ecosystem.
5. Do we get to keep the honey?
Absolutely! That's the sweetest perk of hosting a hive. Your property gets its own exclusive, hyper-local honey harvest. You can choose to use it for events, in your restaurant, in your spa, partner with a local brewery for delicious honey beer, or offer it to VIP guests, the choice is yours.
